File conversion should make sense.

Compare results, examine privacy clues and learn workflows you can repeat.

Try it, measure it, then decide

These experiments demonstrate file-format tradeoffs using files that you can inspect and download. They are not universal benchmarks: results depend on your own browser, encoder, image, and settings. All interactive image processing takes place inside your browser; no file is uploaded by these labs.

Use the downloadable test files to reproduce examples and explore edge cases. Read the linked guides for the reasons behind each result.

How to interpret the results

File size alone does not measure image quality. A smaller file can hide blurry text or remove alpha transparency. WebP and AVIF support also depends on the browser's encoding features. Compare what you can see, measure the output in bytes, and open it in the application where you plan to use it.

Metadata detection is another narrower test: finding or removing an EXIF block is not the same as proving that every possible identifying trace is gone. Our experiments explain that distinction rather than promising absolute anonymity.
