How NowConverter works.

A transparent explanation of local file processing, supported formats, browser limits, privacy and output quality.

How NowConverter works

NowConverter is a browser-first toolbox for common image, PDF, video, audio, archive and text tasks. The site is designed so that supported file operations happen on your device instead of sending your selected file to a NowConverter conversion server.

Local processing

When you choose a file, the browser reads it into memory and the tool performs the requested operation using built-in Web APIs or JavaScript libraries. The result is then offered back to your browser as a download. NowConverter does not provide an account system, personal cloud drive or conversion-history database.

Third-party libraries

Some features need specialised open-source code. PDF tools, ZIP features, QR generation, OCR Assist, AI Image Upscaler, AI Transcriber and certain media functions may load JavaScript, WebAssembly code or model files from public content-delivery networks/model hosts when required. OCR Assist uses Tesseract.js and language-model files. AI Image Upscaler uses ONNX Runtime Web and a Real-ESRGAN model. AI Transcriber uses Transformers.js, ONNX Runtime and browser-compatible OpenAI Whisper models. Those downloads are program/model files coming to your browser, not a NowConverter upload service; selected files stay on the device for processing.

Supported file types

Current tools cover common image formats, PDF page operations and live PDF editing with multilingual OCR assist, WAV audio trimming and equalization, local AI speech transcription with TXT/SRT/VTT export, browser-supported video conversion and frame extraction, CSV/JSON, text utilities, QR codes, batch file renaming, ZIP archives and a Universal File Inspector for local metadata, hash and structure analysis. Exact input and output support depends on your browser because browsers do not all decode or encode the same media formats.

Performance and file-size limits

Local processing trades server uploads for device resource use. Large images, long videos or PDFs with many pages can consume significant memory and CPU. A tool may set its own safety limit to reduce crashes, and mobile devices usually have less available memory than desktop computers.

Privacy model

NowConverter's core design avoids a file-upload endpoint for the current local tools. Website hosting, public libraries, analytics or future advertising services can still receive ordinary web-request information such as IP address, browser details and cookie or consent information where applicable. The Privacy Policy is the source of truth for the site's current data practices.

Quality and accuracy

File conversion can be lossy. Compression, colour profiles, transparency, metadata, audio codecs, dimensions and frame rates can change depending on the selected tool and output format. Keep your original files and review important results before relying on them.

Official documents

Passport-photo, PDF and document tools are general utilities. NowConverter does not certify that an output meets a government, employer, school, bank or other organisation's requirements. Check the receiving organisation's current specifications.

Accessibility and device support

NowConverter aims to work with keyboard navigation, touch input and responsive layouts. Modern browsers receive the best support. If a browser does not expose a required media encoder or decoder, a related option may be unavailable.

Funding and advertising

NowConverter is independently developed and offers an optional support link. The site also includes Google AdSense code for site review and, if approved, advertising. Advertising and consent technologies are separate from the browser-based file-processing logic; selected file contents are not sent to Google for conversion. The Privacy Policy describes the current advertising and consent setup in more detail.
